B. Christoph Meyer graduated from Cornell University with a degree in economics before earning his M.D. at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. While in medical school, he received the Dean’s NIH Fellowship for Medical Student Research and The Warner-Lambert Fellowship for Medical Study in Taiwan. He completed a residency program in Orthopaedic Surgery at Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center/ New York Orthopedic Hospital, where he also completed a post-doctoral fellowship in orthopedic biochemistry. He continued his medical training with a spine fellowship at the Kenton D. Leatherman Spine Program in Louisville, Kentucky, where he focused on scoliosis and adult and pediatric spinal deformities. Dr. Meyer joined the faculty at the University of Texas before beginning a solo practice limited to surgery of the spine. He maintains his academic affiliation with UT, and continues to teach residents and fellows.

SPECIALTIES

His specialties include: cervical fusion and disk replacement for treatment of disc disease, degenerative and rheumatoid arthritis, cervical trauma and reconstruction; lumbar and thoracic decompression and fusion for degenerative conditions, deformity, spondylolisthesis and trauma; and kyphoplasty for treatment of compression fractures.

Dr. Meyer promotes conservative care for the treatment of most spine problems, and continues to have interest in deformity and in complex revision surgery of the neck and low back. He has contributed to developing new techniques and instrumentation for minimally invasive fusions, and was among the first surgeons in Houston to perform cervical and lumbar disc replacements. Dr. Meyer teaches introductory and advanced courses in kyphoplasty, both in the U.S. and internationally, and serves as an advisor to several companies.

He has presented and lectured in Japan, China, and Singapore and hosts visiting surgeons from over seas to teach new techniques and strategies for addressing complex surgical problems.
