WILLIAM C. McGARVEY, M.D.
William McGarvey attended Temple University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and earned a BA in Biology before graduating from Thomas Jefferson University Medical College in Philadelphia. He then completed his surgical internship and orthopedic surgery residency at Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. Dr. McGarvey also completed a fellowship in foot and ankle surgery at the Baylor College of Medicine. He is licensed to practice in the state of Texas and is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgeons.
RECOGNITION FOR EXCELLENCE
Dr. McGarvey is a past Chairman of the Department of Surgery at Katy Memorial Hermann Hospital and was named by H Magazine as one of Houston's "Top Docs" in 2004 and 2005. He has been given numerous other awards, including the Long Handle Scalpel Award, two UT-HSC Dean's Teaching Excellence Awards, the Golden Scalpel Award, Physician of the Year at Katy Memorial Hospital, Miller Vocational Center Teaching Excellence Award and the UT-HSC Department of Orthopedics Affiliated Faculty Teaching Award.
Dr. McGarvey is the only physician at Houston Orthopedic & Spine Hospital who performs ankle joint replacement. He has specialty interest in limb salvage and reconstruction, particularly of the lower leg, ankle and foot using traditional surgical methods as well as those of Ilizarov smallwire external fixation.
APPOINTMENTS & ASSOCIATIONS
His current academic appointments include associate professor of orthopedic surgery at the University of Texas Health Science Center, Houston, Foot and Ankle Surgery Director at the University of Texas Health Science Center, Houston, HOSH for Orthopedic and Reconstructive Research Board Member and clinical instructor of the Foot and Ankle Fellowship at the HOSH for Orthopedic, Athletic and Reconstructive Research.
Dr. McGarvey's professional affiliations include the HOSH Surgery Affiliates Board of Governors, the Harris County Medical Society, the Texas Orthopaedic Association, American Association of Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Surgeons, American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society, the American Society for the Advancement of the Methods of Ilizarov and serving as a Fellow with the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. He is currently the University of Texas Department of Orthopaedic Surgery Residency Program Director. |
