VIVEK P. KUSHWAHA, M.D.
Vivek P. Kushwaha attended the University of Texas at Austin where he earned his B.A. from the College of Natural Sciences. He then earned his medical degree from the University of Texas Medical School at San Antonio, Texas. Dr. Kushwaha completed his general surgery internship and orthopedic surgery residency with the University of California at Los Angeles Medical Center. He was also awarded a fellowship to study spine surgery at the Rancho Los Amigos Medical Center in Downey, California. Dr. Kushwaha is certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery and is licensed to practice in California and Texas.
RECOGNITION FOR EXCELLENCE
Dr. Kushwaha has been honored with the Memorial Hermann Hospital Award for "Most Efficient Surgeon" and was commended as one of "America's Top Physicians" by The Consumer Research Council of America. He has extensive experience in complicated spine surgery, including revision surgery and the latest techniques in kyphoplasty, disk replacement, and microdiskectomy as well as minimally invasive spinal instrumentation and fusion. Dr. Kushwaha was the first surgeon in Houston to perform the kyphoplasty procedure, as well as the first surgeon to perform the lumbar artificial disk replacement. As a result of his pioneering work and clinical expertise, Dr. Kushwaha is sought after by the medical industry for his knowledge as a consultant. Dr. Kushwaha acts as a consultant for various companies including Medtronics, Synthes Spine, SeaSpine, and Spine Frontier.
AFFILIATIONS & ASSOCIATIONS
Dr. Kushwaha is a major component of the UT-Houston Medical School teaching program for spine surgery fellows, orthopedic surgery residents and medical students. His hospital affiliations include St. Joseph's Hospital, Memorial Hermann Hospital, the Methodist Hospital and St. Catherine's Hospital.
He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons. Dr. Kushwaha has professional memberships with the North American Spine Society, the Western Orthopedic Association, the Texas Orthopedic Association, the Harris County Medical Association, Alpha Omega Alpha and the Texas Medical Association.
