WILLIAM J. BRYAN, M.D.
William Jay "Bill" Bryan earned a B.A. from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland before graduating with his M.D. from the Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, Texas. His internship and orthopedic surgery residency was completed with the Baylor College of Medicine. Dr. Bryan also completed a sports medicine fellowship at the Berkshire Sports Medicine Institute of the North Adams Regional Hospital in Williamstown, Massachusetts, as well as an arthritis and implant surgery fellowship at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City, New York. Additionally, he completed an AO trauma and hip surgery fellowship at Inselspital in Berne, Switzerland and a knee sports medicine and reconstruction fellowship at Alfred Hospital in Melbourne, Australia. He is licensed by the state of Texas and is certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgeons.
Dr. Bryan is a clinical professor of orthopedic surgery in the Weill Cornell Medical College of Cornell Universtiy-Houston. He also serves as a faculty member in the Baylor-Methodist Cornell Sports Medicine Fellowship, and adjunct professor in physical therapy instruction at TWU, and an adjunct professor with Rice University's department of human performance.
Dr. Bryan served as the Houston Astro's baseball medical director from 1983 to 2003. During this time he was president of the Major League Baseball's Physicians Association and gave numerous presentations concerning the surgical and non-surgical care of adult throwing injuries. He has spearheaded an effort with major Houston baseball figures to build a national quality baseball player evaluation, injury treatment and conditioning center.
EXPERTISE
Dr. Bryan's expertise in knee care ranges from arthroscopic knee surgery to application of emerging surgical solutions for middle aged knee problems. He has served as a consultant to industries investigating advances in partial and total knee replacements. Along with his expertise in knee care, he also specializes in surgical care of athletic shoulder instability, total shoulder and reverse total shoulder replacement for shoulder arthritis not amendable to conservative care.

Dr. Bryan's hospital appointments include the Methodist Hospital and Houston Orthopedic & Spine Hospital. His professional memberships include the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons, the American Orthopedic Society for Sports Medicine, the Arthroscopy Association of North America, the National Orthopedic Education Society, the Harris County Medical Society, the Houston Orthopedic Society, the Texas Medical Association, the Texas Society of Sports Medicine (current president) and the Texas Orthopedic Association.
